FUTURE LIBRARY SUPPORT
Since 1958 the University Library has served as the hub of knowledge for the Cal State LA campus and has housed the library’s staff and general collections while providing students a place to study. Today, it is a multi-faceted point of convergence that includes student study space, faculty offices, and much more. In 2018 the university began a process to re-envision the library as more than an information resource or study space. The library’s Master Plan will recast the library as a transformative catalyst for students that advances intellectual discovery, enhances learning, and fosters a strong, shared sense of community. Your support will be central to our realization of the Master Plan. Please contact us for more information about our vision or to tour parts of the library that have already been transformed.

With its globally recognized Mesoamerica and Colonial Mexico Collection, Collections of East LA, among many other culturally and historically important collections, Cal State LA’s Special Collections & Archives will be housed in world-class facilities, complete with exhibition spaces, climate-sensitive storage, and study rooms for students, classes and visiting scholars to interact with these rare resources.
A low- and high- tech creative studio for students to do everything from 3D printing to filming on a green screen to using specialized software and sewing machines, the Makerspace Studio will be a state-of-the-art workshop for the entire campus.
From individual study carrels to small group study spaces and flexible rooms that can accommodate entire classes, the reimagined library will be able to serve more than twice the number of students and classes.
A home to many of the campus’ events and exhibitions, the library will showcase a range of gallery spaces that will host interactive and artistic displays, special events, and much more.
Academic and professional development are at the center of the Graduate Resource Center. Offering focused support for academic success, professional development, and community building, our graduate students will be able to rehearse presentations, form study groups, and prepare their work for publication – all in one place.
