Software for Personal Computers

Cal State LA has agreements with various software companies to provide free or discounted software to eligible students, faculty, and staff for use on their personal devices such as laptops or home computers. Please make sure to read the end-user license agreement (EULA) associated with each software title to comply with any usage restrictions set by the publisher.

Below is a list of software that can be downloaded or purchased for personal use. Click each software title to view more details.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Description: Adobe Creative Cloud is a subscription-based service that provides access to the latest versions of Adobe's creative software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, and more.

Platform: Windows, Mac

Cost: $40 annual subscription fee

Eligibility: Students, faculty, staff

How to get it: For information on how to purchase a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, visit the Adobe Creative Cloud page of the ITS website.

Autodesk

Description: Autodesk is a software corporation that makes 3D design, engineering, and entertainment software. This includes AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 3ds Max, Maya, and more.

Platform: Windows, Mac

Cost: Free

Eligibility: Students, faculty

How to get it: Download Autodesk software from the Autodesk Education Community website. You will need to register for an Autodesk account using your Cal State LA email address to download the software.

ChemDraw

Description: ChemDraw is a chemical drawing program that allows you to create chemical structures and reactions, laboratory notes, and experiment write-ups.

Platform: Windows, Mac

Cost: Free

Eligibility: Students, faculty, staff

How to get it: Download ChemDraw from the PerkinElmer website. You will need to enter your Cal State LA email address for site license verification and register for a PerkinElmer account to download the software.

IBM SPSS

Description: SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) is one of the most popular statistical software packages. It can perform highly complex data manipulation and analysis with simple instructions.

Platform: Windows, Mac

Cost: Free

Eligibility: Faculty, staff

How to get it: Visit the ITS Help Desk in the Library Palmer Wing Lobby and fill out the software license agreement form. Once your request has been processed, you will receive the installation files and authorization code.

IBM SPSS Amos

Description: Amos (Analysis of Moment Structures) is an add-on module for SPSS. It is designed primarily for structural equation modeling, path analysis, and covariance structure modeling.

Microsoft Office 2016

Description: Microsoft Office is a suite of desktop applications for Windows and Mac. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more.

Eligibility: Faculty, staff, auxiliary employees

Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus

Description: Office 365 ProPlus is a full version of Office 2016 that is available through Office 365. It includes applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more.

Microsoft Security Essentials

Description: Microsoft Security Essentials helps guard your PC against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

How to get it: Download the software from the Microsoft website.

Note: If you have Windows 10, you will get the latest antivirus protection with Windows Defender. It is free and is included in Windows 10.

Microsoft Windows 10

Description: Windows 10 is the latest major release of Microsoft's Windows operating system. It contains a host of new features, security updates, and a platform-unifying design.

SAS

Description: SAS (Statistical Analysis System) is a software suite used for advanced analytics, multivariate analyses, business intelligence, data management, and predictive analytics.

TechSmith Camtasia and Snagit

Description: Camtasia is a screen recording and video editing program that allows you to record, edit, and share professional videos. Snagit is a screen capture and editing program that allows you to capture, edit, and share anything displayed on your screen.

How to get it: Visit the ITS Help Desk in the Library Palmer Wing Lobby and fill out the software license agreement form. Once your request has been processed, you will receive the download link and software key, and will be able to immediately download the software.

Wolfram Mathematica

Description: Mathematica is a fully integrated technical computing system used by scientists, engineers, analysts, and students. Its features include symbolic and numeric computation, 2D and 3D data visualization, and a complete programming environment.

Cost: Free
