Team made in its fifth-straight apperance in the NCAA tournament

The Golden Eagles men’s soccer squad, the defending NCAA Division II West Region champions, saw its championship reign come to an end Saturday night in a tough 1-0 loss to Cal Poly Pomona.

Cal State LA, the No. 5 seed, battled hard against top-seed and NCAA West Region tourney host Cal Poly Pomona but gave up one goal in the first half of the match. The Golden Eagles had several good shots on goal that were blocked by Cal Poly Pomona's goal keeper.

On Thursday, Cal State LA defeated Stanislaus State in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a thrilling win on penalty kicks after the game had ended in a 1-1 tie.

Goal keeper Anthony Perez stopped two of Stanislaus State's three penalty tries, and Herbert Biste, Steven Eberle and Kaan Gultoprak were successful with their kicks to propel Cal State LA to the regional semi-finals.

The Cal State LA women finished their season well with a 7-2-2 record in the final 11 games. Nearly the entire Golden Eagle women’s roster returns next season.
