Cal State LA's Class of 2017 features 70-year-old grandmother, twin brothers from Saudi Arabia

What:              More than 200 students will be participating in the Charter College of Education’s Commencement ceremony at California State University, Los Angeles on May 22. The keynote speaker will be Feliza I. Ortiz-Licon, board member for the California Department of Education.

Who:               Among the outstanding students in Cal State LA’s Class of 2017 are:

  • twin brothers Fahad and Faisal Alnemary from Saudi Arabia, who will march together across the Commencement stage and receive their Doctors of Philosophy in Special Education.
  • Berenice Onofre Vásquez, a 70-year-old grandmother who will reach a proud moment on her lifelong journey when she receives her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership.

When:             Monday, May 22, 2016,  6 p.m.  (The Commencement program will run about two hours.)

Where:            University Stadium at the Billie Jean King Sports Complex at Cal State LA. Parking for the media is available in Lot 4 near the Administration building. Proceed to Gate F by the stadium (side entrance near the baseball field) and check in at the media booth. You will be escorted to a media viewing area. More:              Cal State LA’s Commencement 2017 will be a three-day festivity filled with pride and celebrations. President William A. Covino will be on hand to congratulate each graduate in nine separate Commencement exercises from May 20 to 22, where more than 4,000 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees will be conferred.
