Associated Students, Inc. at Cal State L.A. joins forces with other universities
What: Cal State L.A. will be the site of a major voter registration drive on Sept. 23 as part of National Voter Registration Day. Joining college campuses across the state to take part in this non-partisan initiative, Cal State L.A. aims to encourage college students to register to vote for the Nov. 4 General Election.
Who: The drive will feature speakers Warren Furutani of Asian Americans Advancing Justice; California State Senator Alex Padilla; Congressman Xavier Becerra; Hilda Solis, former United States Secretary of Labor; and Dean Logan, Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. Welcoming remarks will be given by Cal State L.A. President William A. Covino.
To assist in Cal State L.A.’s efforts, TurboVote (csula.turbovote.org) and CALPIRG (www.castudentvote.org) have created online voter registration tools to help students not only register by Oct. 20, but share with their friends and get follow up reminders to cast their ballots on Election Day.
When: Tuesday, Sept. 23, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
More: Free KOGI tacos will be given to the first 100 Cal State L.A. students in attendance. Music will be provided by POWER 106 FM. The event is spearheaded by the university’s Associated Students, Inc. in partnership with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. National Voter Registration Day is a call to action for people nationwide to take part in voter-registration efforts (#CelebrateNVRD).
