Cal State L.A. Professor of Music James Ford III is a member of a jazz band that has been nominated for a Grammy Award.
Ford is a trumpet pl
ayer with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, which received a nomination for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for a recording titled “The L.A. Treasures Project.”The orchestra formed in 1985 and has received enthusiastic responses from fans and reviewers. The big band was named the in-residence ensemble for the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Series from 1999 to 2001.
Ford joined the Cal State L.A. Department of Music faculty in 2003 and is the director of the University’s Jazz Orchestra. He teaches studio trumpet and courses in jazz studies.
Nominations for the 57th annual Grammy Awards were announced on December 5 by The Recording Academy.
