Cal State L.A. Student Receives
2001 Master's Thesis Award

Los Angeles, CA -- Cal State L.A. student Reinard Knur was recently selected for a 2001 Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS/UMI) Master's Thesis Award. The presentation of the award will be made at the WAGS/UMI annual meeting at Universal Studios to be held from March 2-4, 2001.

This special honor is given annually to one graduate student from nearly 100 member institutions whose master's thesis exemplifies excellence in his or her field of study. The award, which includes a certificate of accomplishment and an honorarium of $1,000, is also a mark of distinction for Cal State L.A.

Anaheim resident Reinard Knur, a civil engineering major, will receive the award for his outstanding thesis on "The Effect of Dam Construction in the Malibu Creek Watershed on the Malibu Coastline Sediment Budget." The thesis was written under the mentorship of Cal State L.A. professors in civil engineering and geology. The thesis chair was Professor Young C. Kim, chair of the Civil Engineering Department at Cal State L.A.

This will be the second time in approximately five years that a Cal State L.A. thesis has been selected as the best in the West. In 1997, William Henry Blair, a United States History major at Cal State L.A., was presented the Distinguished Master's Thesis Award by the WAGS/UMI for his thesis entitled "Jury Nullification: English and American Cases, 1649-1995."

For more information, call José Galván, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at Cal State L.A., (323) 343-3820.
