Cal State L.A. among
top-ranking institutions
awarding bachelor's degrees
to minority students

Los Angeles, CA -- California State University, Los Angeles was recently listed #28 among Diverse: Issues in Higher Education’s “Top 100,” a national list of colleges and universities that conferred the most bachelor’s degrees to minority students in 2005-2006, based on data from the U.S. Department of Education.

In a separate listing by disciplines, Cal State L.A. (ranked #2 nationally) was the top-ranking institution in California in awarding bachelor’s degrees in education to Hispanic students. The University was also ranked #5 in awarding bachelor’s degrees in education to Asian American students and #9 in awarding bachelor’s degrees in English to Hispanic students.

Additionally, Cal State L.A. was listed among the top 20 in awarding bachelor’s degrees in business management/marketing and health professions/related clinical sciences to Asian American students, as well as in awarding bachelor’s degrees in health professions/related clinical sciences, mathematics and statistics, and psychology to Hispanic students.

Cal State L.A. is among the highest ranking institutions in California awarding bachelor’s degrees in all disciplines combined to Hispanic students.

CSU campuses comprise a third of the nation’s top 30 universities in number of baccalaureate degrees awarded to minorities. Minority student categories include Black, non-Hispanic; American Indian or Alaskan Native; Asian or Pacific Islander; and Hispanic. The Diverse magazine lists are drawn from information collected by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics.
