CAL STATE L.A. CELEBRATES SUNRAYCE 97 VICTORY

Solar Eagle III is No. 1 in North America

Who:
Cal State L.A. will host a welcome home victory celebration to congratulate the winning Team Solar Eagle III, the national champions, for placing first overall in the recent Sunrayce 97, an intercollegiate solar car race from Indianapolis, Indiana to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

What:
Solar Eagle III Faculty Advisor Richard Roberto, Lead Driver Roman Vasquez, and other team members will be available for photos. The bright yellow, student-built, solar- powered vehicle--Solar Eagle III--will also be on display.

When:
Wednesday, July 9, 12 noon-1 p.m.

Where:
Luckman Street of the Arts, at the north end of the Cal State L.A. campus. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways.

On June 28, Cal State L.A.'s Solar Eagle III solar car left 34 North American contenders in their shadow as they crossed the Sunrayce 97 finish line solidly in first place at the end of the last, 77-mile leg of the 10-day cross-country competition. Supported by a team of 11 students, three faculty and two staff members, the car was able to maintain its 20- minute lead ahead of second-place MIT's Manta GT at the race's end. Solar Eagle III also placed ahead of cars built by other major U.S. universities.
