Sex. Betrayal. More Sex. Conspiracy. Seduction, sex, death and power. ItÂs opera at its best. Hot, passionate, lustful and deceitful. AndÂitÂs funny. The Department of Music at California State University, Los Angeles presents five performances of LÂincoronazione di Poppea (The Coronation of Poppea), by Claudio Monteverdi: Friday, April 8, Saturday, April 9, and Thursday, April 14 - Saturday, April 16. All opera performances will be held at 8 p.m. in the State Playhouse on the Cal State L.A. campus.
The Coronation of Poppea is a timeless story of greed, power, corruption and love, set to beautiful music in the Baroque style. The full production will be sung by CSULA voice majors in Italian with English supertitles. Conceived by artistic director Susan Kane (CSULA music faculty), this production combines the theatrical expertise of director/choreographer Tanya Kane-Parry (CSULA theatre arts faculty) with the exciting baton of music director Steven Kronauer. Here, art deco meets film noir through the creative design of Karyl Newman, Laura Mroczkowski, and Amanda Seymore.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets will be available for purchase one hour before the performance. For ticket reservations, please call (323) 343-4055.
