Cal State L.A. Students Win Top Prizes
at National Marketing Competition

Los Angeles, CA - June 22, 1998 - Cal State L.A. students recently won the Top Marketing [Project] Award and Top Region Award at the 1998 Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) National Competition in Norfolk, Virginia. Under the direction of PSE's Phi Chapter president Tony Au (Los Angeles), competitors Misty Iwatsu (North Hills), Margarita Perez Sanchez (South Gate), Ronald Yee (Los Angeles), Teresa Cisneros (Los Angeles), and Marie Esperanza Garcia (Los Angeles) defeated more than 60 PSE marketing teams from other universities around the country.

The winning project was developed through General Motors Marketing Internship project headed by Shirley Stretch-Stephenson, marketing chair and professor at Cal State L.A. Students partnered with Bewley Allen Cadillac Dealership of Alhambra and executed the Catera project in spring quarter, 1997. During the competition, Cal State L.A.'s PSE team presented the Cadillac Catera project before a panel of eight judges. The student team was questioned about the development, implementation and assessment of the marketing plan, and was assessed on their ability to communicate and to effectively present their project.

Pi Sigma Epsilon is a national, professional co-educational fraternity in marketing, sales management and selling. Founded in 1952, PSE was created to promote the fields of marketing and sales as careers, and today is identified as one of the strongest forces motivating college students to enter sales, marketing, and related fields.
