The Ronald E. McNair participants are from disadvantaged backgrounds and have demonstrated strong academic potential. Institutions work closely with these participants through their undergraduate requirements, encourage their entrance into graduate programs, and track their progress to successful completion of advanced degrees. The goal of McNair is to increase graduate degree attainment of students from underrepresented segments of society.

The McNair program offers undergraduate students research opportunities, mentoring, seminars, tutoring, academic counseling, GRE preparation courses, and other scholarly activities designed to prepare students for doctoral studies. The program, established in memory of the astronaut, physicist, and Challenger crew member Dr. Ronald E. McNair, is a federal TRIO (Educational Opportunity for Low-Income and Disabled Americans) program funded at 156 institutions across the United States and Puerto Rico by the U.S. Department of Education.

For more information, call McNair Program's faculty coordinator, Mitchell Eisen, at (323) 343-2250 or call the McNair Program's office at (323) 343-6095.
