Cal State L.A. to Recognize Student Accomplishments at 40th Honors Convocation

What & Who:
With formal pageantry, the University Honors Convocation will recognize more than 2,000 Cal State L.A. students whose academic record places them in the upper fifth percentile of their peers. Dean's List honorees, recipients of scholarships, grants and alumni certificates of honor, and general education honors program participants will be honored at the program. In addition, approximately 200 new freshmen will be recognized for having entered the University with a 3.5 GPA or higher on their high school records.

When:
Friday, April 27, 2001, 7 p.m.

Where:
Cal State L.A. Eagles' Nest Gymnasium. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Fwy., at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Fwys.

Speaker:
Noted journalist, author, and journalism educator Dr. Félix Gutiérrez is senior vice president and executive director of The Freedom Forum Pacific Coast Center. Gutiérrez is a 1965 Cal State L.A. alumnus in social science and former student body president. He is a founding member of the California Chicano News Media Association.

Program:
The Convocation ceremony will begin with a formal processional, with faculty robed in colorful academic regalia. Immediately following the Convocation, honorees and their guests are invited to programs and receptions hosted by their Colleges.
