Ingwerson Los Angeles, CA -- October 27, 1998 -- On Thursday, November 12, 1998, the Friends of the Charter School of Education at California State University, Los Angeles will honor David W. Koch and Donald W. Ingwerson at the ninth annual Distinguished Educators Award Dinner. The distinguished awards are presented annually to recognize leaders in the field of education whose lives and careers have made a difference for students in the public schools. The event, to be held at the Almansor Court Restaurant in the city of Alhambra, will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. followed by a dinner at 6 p.m. David W. Koch is the chief administrative officer of the Los Angeles Unified School District. His wide ranging responsibilities extend over all of the business, financial, facilities and information technology functions of the second largest school district in the nation, whose budget is at a record $6.5 billion. Koch is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Missouri. He is a member of the Association of California School Administrators, California Association of School Business Officials, California CPA Foundation, California Society of CPA's, Council of the Great City Schools, School Business Executives and board of directors of the district's Student Health Services Support Fund. Donald W. Ingwerson is the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools. He directs the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), the nation's largest regional education agency, which provides fiscal oversight and educational programs and services to 81 K-12 school districts and 13 community college districts throughout the county. Ingwerson serves on 12 local and national boards and committees. He has published 12 articles on education reform and presented numerous lectures throughout the world on the same topic. Ingwerson has been awarded the 1996 National McGraw-Hill Prize in Education, the Outstanding Executive in North America four times by the education journal, Executive 100, and has been honored in Washington, DC, by the National Association of Partners in Education. The Friends of the Charter School of Education is a support group of alumni, educators and community members whose principal objectives are to give scholarship assistance to men and women enrolled in the University's Charter School of Education and to support other activities of the School. These scholarships assist future educators who will be teaching and providing educational opportunities for children. All proceeds from the event will go to support the Friends' Scholarship Endowment and Faculty Development funds.
