Cal State L.A. Announces New Dean of
the Charter College of Education
Los Angeles, CA ÂCalifornia State University, Los Angeles recently appointed Carol A. Bartell (Moorpark resident) as Dean of the Charter College of Education and Professor of Education, effective October 1, 2003.
Bartell will provide leadership in implementing academic activities and the mission of the college. She overseas management of college resources and generates resources from within the University and from external sources. Bartell is responsible for providing leadership in curriculum and program development, organizing and scheduling of classes and programs, coordination of academic support services, supervision and development of academic support personnel, and interaction with students in activities related to academic programs.
Bartell has served as the Dean of the School of Education at California Lutheran University from 1995 to September 2003. She developed the first doctoral program offered by California Lutheran University and obtained WASC approval, led in the development of grants and contracts totaling over $3 million, and led the School of Education through a successful NCATE accreditation. For the past four years, she represented the independent colleges and universities as ex-officio member of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
She received her B.A. from Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois, in 1967; M.A. from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1972; and Ed.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1985.
