BOBBY RODRIGUEZ AND THE HMA ORCHESTRA FEATURING MUSIC OF SALSA BALLET AT LUCKMAN THEATRE ON APRIL 27
"High energy hot, spicy and delicious big band Latin Jazz" is how critics describe the music of Bobby Rodriguez and the HMA Orchestra. They will appear for a special performance, featuring the music of their newly created Salsa Ballet, at Cal State L.A.'s Luckman Theatre on Sunday, April 27 at 4 p.m. Tickets are $30 and $25 for general admission and $12 for seniors over 65 and students. "This is a great 'dream come true' band with world class musicians, hot Salsa rhythms, and an original California sound. They give back to the community through educational concerts performed all over Los Angeles, taking the message, 'If we can make it, so can you!!' says Bobby Rodriguez, leader and president of the Hispanic Musicians Association.
The 23-piece Hispanic Musicians Association Orchestra banded together in 1985 to help themselves make something happen. Since then, the Orchestra has gained world recognition with its release of two CD's California Salsa and California Salsa II.
Bobby Rodriguez and the HMA Orchestra are on a mission of education. Through the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Rodriguez and the Orchestra have recently completed 40 concerts for students in the Los Angeles Unified School District to give them a more complete understanding of music.
Rodriguez, who was raised in East Los Angeles, has honed his skills as a musician and entertainer over the decades and offers students the insight of his many years of hard work. "I go into hundreds of schools, telling students to follow their dreams and telling them not to let anyone stop them."
Luckman Theatre, part of The Harriet and Charles Luckman Fine Arts Complex, brings the performing arts, in their most creative forms, to Southern California.
