The Second Annual
Altoids Curiously Strong Collection
November 17 - December 22, 2000

The Harriet and Charles Luckman Fine Arts Gallery, located on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles, presents The Second Annual Altoids Curiously Strong Collection -- a group exhibition of curious, strong and original artworks by 25 of America's most talented emerging artists. Exhibition dates are November 17 - December 22, 2000. Admission is free of charge.

Twenty-five emerging contemporary artists* from Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and elsewhere are featured in this group exhibition of painting, photography, sculpture, works on paper, video and digital media. This represents the second traveling exhibition of new acquisitions to the Altoids Curiously Strong Collection, which is assembled annually by a committee of prominent artists, curators and gallerists* and exhibited nationwide. Its appearance at the Luckman Gallery represents the last stop of the Collection tour after appearances in Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, and San Francisco.

Works in this diverse collection were selected primarily for their visual power and originality, which has resulted in an exhibition that is highly engaging. Highlights include Reanne Estrada's sculpture made of soap; Seong Chun's literature-laden, crocheted paper sculptures; a large-scale installation of fast-food drink cups by Patrick Miceli; Susan Lutz's imagery-lush video installation, The Wardian Case; and Michelle Hines' video stills documenting her experience of over 528 hours of sleep deprivation.

Also presented are a ceramic mini-diorama by Michael Pierzynski; Michelle Segre's densely rendered marker drawing; a Styrofoam and neon sculpture by Jason Rogenes; and D'nell Larson's passenger-use swan sculptures entitled Bump.
