Assistant U.S. Secretary for Aging Will Visit Cal State L.A.
to Discuss Current and Future Programs for Older Americans

What & Who:
"Honor the Past, Imagine the Future," a talk by guest speaker Jeanette Takamura, Assistant Secretary for Aging in the Department of Health and Human Services, will be presented by the Edward R. Roybal Institute for Applied Gerontology at California State University, Los Angeles. Takamura will address current and future programs for the elderly in the United States.

When:
Tuesday, May 5, 1998, 4-6 p.m.

Where:
Cal State L.A. Roybal Center (Salazar Hall C120). The University is located at the Eastern Ave. exit, San Bernardino Fwy., at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Fwys. Public permit dispenser parking is available in Lots C and G, and Parking Structure II.

Speaker:
Jeanette Takamura has served on numerous national advisory councils for private and public associations including the National Advisory Committee for the 1995 White House Conference on Aging, the Board of Directors of the National Association of State Units on Aging, and the Board of the American Society of Aging. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in social work from the University of Hawaii, and a Ph.D. in social policy from Brandeis University.

The Assistant Secretary for Aging provides executive level leadership in the development and implementation of policies and programs related to older Americans, oversees the Administration on Aging, administers grants, and provides direction and technical assistance to States and other grantees to promote the development of community-based assistance, including social support and nutrition services.

The Edward R. Roybal Institute for Applied Gerontology is a Cal State L.A. program that focuses on providing educational opportunities that develop gerontological expertise and programs that meet the health and welfare needs of the elderly.
