Cal State L.A.’s Project GEAR UP to host ’16 Summers’ tour stop at Roosevelt High School

Nick Cannon, recording artists to ‘gear up’ local teens to go to college

What & Who:   When Cal State L.A.’s Project GEAR UP brings the “16 Summers”

                          National GEAR UP Education Awareness Tour to Roosevelt High

                          School, the motivational message of actor, rapper and comedian

                          Nick Cannon will really put the tour in “gear.”

                          The “16 Summers” first official tour stop in California will energize and encourage 2,400 local high school students to pursue their dreams of going to college. Along with motivational speeches by Cannon and his father James, the afternoon will feature live entertainment by several recording artists focused on the theme of college preparation.                    

When:               Thursday, Dec. 16. Two college motivation presentations: 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (Times subject to change.)

*CSULA Project GEAR UP’s Class of 2012 students from Méndez Learning Center, Esteban Torres High and Garfield High will also be in attendance for the first presentation.

Where:              Roosevelt High School’s Auditorium. One of CSULA’s Project GEAR UP school sites, Roosevelt is located at 456 South Mathews Street in Los Angeles. (School website: http://www.rooseveltlausd.org/)

Details:             Project GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) at Cal State L.A. is funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant. Its mission is to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
