College students learn first-hand what it is like
to manage the Federal Reserve

CSULA team to compete in open market simulation

WHAT:          On Tuesday, May 29, college students nationwide will converge on the Cal State L.A. campus to learn about the Federal Reserve System and how our nation’s central bank influences the U.S. economic and business climate. Conducted by Gary Zimmerman, senior economist at Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (FRBSF), the University Symposium will offer undergraduate students dynamic exercises developed by representatives from the FRBSF.

MORE:          The symposium will include a presentation regarding the current
                       economic outlook presented by a FRBSF economist, followed by
                       a real-time Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) Simulation
                       with university students taking on the role of FOMC members and
                       voting on monetary policy and the target federal funds interest rates.

CSULA students enrolled in the ECON 303 “Money, Banking, and the Economy” class and ECON 435 “Market Indicators and Federal Reserve Policy” class will participate in the FOMC Simulation.
