as Part of its 50th Anniversary Festivities
Los Angeles, California -- September 22, 1997 -- From Thursday, October 9 through Friday, November 21, California State University, Los Angeles Fine Arts Gallery and the Luckman Fine Arts Gallery will present a 50th anniversary exhibition, "An Artful Celebration." The exhibition, featuring Cal State L.A. faculty and alumni artists, celebrates the University's 50 years of commitment to excellence in higher education and the arts. The gallery hours are Monday through Thursday and Saturday, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The artists' reception is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The images and objects included in this milestone exhibition reflect the diverse development of art- making activity at Cal State L.A. and in the city of Los Angeles over the past 50 years. The installations of traditional and nontraditional art forms, include paintings, sculptures, video, photography and ceramics.
The exhibition includes works by Cal State L.A. emeritus faculty Walter Askin, Charles Borman, Shiro Ikegawa, Malcolm McClain, and Roy Walden; faculty members Elizabeth Bryant, Jack Butler, Susan Cash, Mika Cho, Dan Douke, Ed Forde, Tony Longson, Joe Soldate, Connie Utterback and Patricia Woodlin; and alumni Linda Arreola, Anthony Askew, Woodrow Bailey, Mary Bardmess, Donald Bernard, Gloria Bohanon, Olivia Sanchez-Brown, Douglas Bond, Jonathan Clark, Stanley Edmondson, Christopher Evans, Dennis Garcia, Martin V. Garcia, Mark Greenfield, Frank Gutierrez, Fred Hauptman, Fielden Harper, George Hull, Marsha Johnson, Barbara Kerwin, In Sook Lee, Collie Lowe, Janet MacKaig, Susana Meiers, Yvonne Cole Meo, Tony Mosca, Pat Norman, Kaz Ota, Barbara Rogoff, Ben Sakoguchi, Norman Schwab, Rufus Snoddy, Gordon Thorpe, Mike Tracy, Kent Twitchell, Sandra Varos, Joan Vaupen, LaMonte Westmoreland, Kay Wilder, Gary Williams and David Yamaguchi.
Cal State L.A. is located at the Eastern Ave. exit of the San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of 10 and 710 Freeways. Parking is available at Parking Structure II (Parking permits may be purchased from permit dispensers).
