Research Opportunities in Energy and Sustainability at Cal State LA

Cal State LA offers exciting research opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students in the sciences and engineering. Our program focuses on advancing knowledge in energy and sustainability, allowing students to collaborate with faculty across diverse disciplines, including chemistry, biology, geography, physics, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, as well as computer science and technology. These research experiences emphasize topics related to urban sustainability.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled at Cal State LA.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
  • Undergraduate students in their first or second year are eligible to apply as U-Research students.
  • Undergraduate students in their third year or beyond, as well as graduate students, may be considered for fellowship opportunities.

How to Apply

  1. Join a Research Lab
    • Become involved in a campus research lab led by a CATSUS-affiliated faculty member.
  2. Faculty Nomination
    • Discuss your qualifications with a faculty advisor to secure a nomination for the CREST-CATSUS Student Fellowship.
  3. Application Submission
    • Upon nomination, the CATSUS office will provide an application form.
    • Complete and submit the application within two weeks.
  4. Application Review
    • Applications will be reviewed, on a merit base, by the Education and Outreach Committee.
