Driven to Become a Scientist

My aspiration to become a scientist and educator fueled my motivation to overcome my challenges and earn my degree. The biggest challenge I faced was surviving financially and managing my time. During my undergraduate degree, I sometimes worked full-time to make ends meet. The way I adjusted was by finding a community on campus that shared my values and supported my success. The thing I would do differently would be to not be afraid to ask for help and advocate for myself.

Advice to First-Gen Students

Find a support network on campus or in your community, don't be afraid to ask for help, and don't forget to pay it forward.
