About Me
I am Professor of Applied Linguistics and TESOL at California State University, Los Angeles, where I serve as TESOL Program Coordinator and Graduate Advisor. My research explores second language acquisition, language teacher education, language assessment, academic discourse, and the cognitive and psychophysiological dimensions of language learning.
My scholarship bridges theory and practice through interdisciplinary research on language learning, teaching, and assessment. I have published books, journal articles, encyclopedia entries, and book chapters on topics including second language anxiety, academic speaking, teacher education, psychophysiology, language assessment, and antiracist language pedagogy.
In addition to my teaching and research, I serve as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Issues in Applied Linguistics and hold leadership roles within CATESOL. I enjoy mentoring graduate students and collaborating with colleagues on research that advances applied linguistics and language education.

Prior to joining California State University, Los Angeles, I taught at the University of California, Los Angeles and Santa Monica College and worked extensively in teacher education and language assessment.

Teaching

Graduate Mentorship
I have chaired numerous M.A. theses, graduate projects, and Ed.D. dissertations in applied linguistics, language education, discourse analysis, multilingualism, language assessment, and educational leadership. Mentoring graduate students and supporting their development as scholars, educators, and researchers is one of the most rewarding aspects of my academic career.
