Get ready to celebrate freedom, culture, and community at Cal State LA's Juneteenth celebration, a vibrant afternoon filled with music, culture, connection, and unforgettable experiences. This joyful event brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to honor the significance of Juneteenth while celebrating the resilience, creativity, and contributions of Black communities. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members are invited to commemorate and celebrate this significant milestone in American history, reflecting on the enduring pursuit of freedom, equality, and opportunity. 

Enjoy delicious food from Black-owned businesses, explore local vendors, experience the energy and tradition of a Divine Nine step exhibition, engage in meaningful conversations, and take part in activities that foster connection and community. Special highlights include an exclusive conversation with acclaimed artist D Smoke and a film screening and discussion that explores stories of culture, history, and resilience. Whether you come to learn, connect, celebrate, dance, or simply enjoy the atmosphere, Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom, Culture, and Community promises an inspiring and memorable afternoon filled with joy, pride, reflection, and celebration.

Celebrate Juneteenth through the vibrant traditions of the Divine Nine (D9) historically Black fraternities and sororities. This special step exhibition will showcase the artistry, precision, unity, and cultural significance of stepping and strolling—powerful forms of expression rooted in Black history, storytelling, and community pride. Join us as we honor freedom, resilience, and the enduring legacy of Black excellence through an unforgettable display of rhythm, movement, and fellowship.

University-Student Union Theatre

Join us for a short film screening celebrating diverse stories, perspectives, and creative voices. Following the screening, participants will engage in a thoughtful discussion on the importance of representation in media and the evolution of Black storytelling in film.
