Description

Cal State LA will host a book reading for We Are Alive When We Speak for Justice. In 2015, Mendez High students studied the history of Mendez v. Westminster,
the landmark court case that challenged segregated schools in California. They investigated race and redlining in their own community of Boyle Heights. They interviewed Chicano activists fighting for change from the 1960s to today. Cal State LA students assisted the Mendez High School writers and created lesson plans for the student book project.
