Description

The fitness industry can inundate us with sexualized messages that pressure us to punish our bodies to make them fit.  Dr. Courtney Marshall (English and Women’s Studies, University of New Hampshire) examines the coded messages about gender and race behind these messages and discuss ways to pursue fitness in a way that honors our bodies as they are.  Additionally, she’ll discuss “fitness justice,” a movement away from exercise as a personal pursuit and into the realm of community empowerment.
