IEW: Global Perspectives on Ending Gender-Based Violence

Date and time
Thursday, November 17, 2022 - 9:00am to 10:30am
Location
University-Student Union, Los Angeles Room A (3rd floor)
Description

In 2000, the United Nations designated November 25 as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, marking the brutal assassination in 1960 of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic. November 25 and the ensuing 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence which follow (ending on December 10, International Human Rights Day), are commemorated around the world, providing individuals and groups a chance to mobilize and call attention to the urgent need to end violence against women and girls. This session will include guest speakers and seek to provide a “safe and brave space” for domestic and international students to collectively learn and share their experiences and perspectives – especially in light of disturbing events in Iran, India, Mexico, Ukraine, South Africa, and even the U.S. For more information, visit the IEW Event Calendar.
