Description

This event features Enrique Reynoso of the Organización Popular Francisco Villa de Izquierda Independiente (OPFVII, also known as los Panchos) and Alejandro Monzón of the Mexico Solidarity Network. The Panchos bring together tens of thousands of people who occupy land and build thriving, autonomous communities in the heart of one of the world's grittiest cities by promoting urban self-government; community safety; and access to autonomous education, culture, and health. The panel will examine models of community building developed in Mexico City and discuss implications for Los Angeles and other urban areas.
