The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is proud to welcome civil rights activist JoAnne Bland during this virtual reflection of an annual EOP student trip to Alabama, where students, staff, and Pan African Studies faculty reviewed the events that led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act (1965) and the creation of programs such as EOP.
Ms. Bland was injured during Bloody Sunday. She was arrested a documented 13 times by the age of 11 and was the youngest person arrested in protests for civil rights during that era. She is co-founder and former director of the National Voting Rights Museum in Selma, Alabama.
The annual civil rights tour of Alabama contributed to the academic, social, personal, and spiritual growth of many EOP students and staff who attended and continue to fight discrimination today.
