Description
Join us for a free screening of Walkout (2006), directed by Edward James Olmos, marking 20 years since the film’s release. Based on the true story of the 1968 East Los Angeles student walkouts, the film follows Chicano students who organized and used their collective voices to challenge inequality in their schools.
Before the screening, Yoli Rios, a student organizer of the 1968 walkouts, will join Professor Anita Tijerina Revilla of the Department of Chicana(o) and Latina(o) Studies for a conversation about the movement, its legacy, and the continued importance of student activism and advocacy.
This event is part of Cal State LA’s voter and civic engagement plan. With the Nov. 3 election one week away, voter and civic engagement resources will be available throughout the evening, including information on voter registration, how and where to vote, and ways to stay involved beyond Election Day.
