The New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) team designs programs and events to educate students and parents on university resources, and to assist with the transition families experience as students begin and continue their university education. New Student and Family Programs is happy to serve as the University’s liaison to families during the different stages of the student experience.
From orientation, where we get to welcome brand new freshmen, incoming transfer students, and even those students returning to Cal State LA after being away, to graduation, an epic celebration of student achievement, New Student and Family Programs works hard to positively impact student success!
Who are “new” students?
First-time freshmen and transfer students in their first year at Cal State LA are considered new students. NSFP’s programs and activities are geared towards helping students in their first year have a smooth and successful transition into the larger Cal State LA community.
What do you offer for parents?
We have multiple programs to help inform and engage the parents and family support members of our new students. We offer educational workshops through our Parent Academy series, access to social and athletic events on campus, and even special volunteer opportunities.
I’m a new student who is also a parent; what about me?
We certainly recognize that some of our students have families of their own. Click here to download our Resource Guide for Students with Dependents.
