The University monitors information on files downloaded on the campus network. Not only is unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing of copyrighted works, including music, pictures, movies, and other published materials a violation of campus computer-use policy, but it is illegal and may carry significant monetary and criminal sanctions. Downloading or uploading copyrighted works with the permission of the copyright holder is prohibited. Illegal file-sharing and other copyright violations are violations of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations.
