Health & Safety Inspections are visual inspections of all spaces in Housing & Residence Life and occur once per semester.
What Housing & Residence Life is looking for
Your presence is not required for this inspection. If residents are not home or do not answer the door at the time of the inspection, the Residence Life team will announce their presence and key into the room.
Empty bed spaces have not been “taken over”/otherwise occupied by current residents of the space. Empty bed spaces are to be “move-in ready” for potential moves.
General Cleanliness of the space, including:
- The space is free of “noxious odors,” including odors from smoking/vaping, the presence of marijuana, body odor, and/or general uncleanliness.
- Floors are clear and clean, trash is either properly contained or disposed of (including but not limited to food waste), etc.
Policy violations, including but not limited to:
- Policies regarding electronics, extension cords/power strips, and appliances are in compliance.
- Fire safety hazards including but not limited to the aforementioned electronics/appliances, candles/incense, etc. are not present.
- Smoke detectors and fire sprinklers are untampered and unobstructed.
- Furniture policies are in compliance (nothing is missing, no additional furniture and everything is where it should be).
- All policies regarding substances, including drugs and alcohol, are in compliance.
- No evidence of a violation of housing policy including but not limited to: the presence of weapons, unapproved animals/animal wellbeing, items hanging from the ceiling, etc.
- No decorations in windows, windows are clear of items that could block emergency access, etc.
Facilities concerns, including but not limited to:
- Light Fixtures are working as expected and uncovered.
- Evidence of leaks and/or water damage.
- No signs of bugs, rodents, or other pests.
Work Orders
If there are issues that require a work order (i.e., broken locks, light bulb missing), please login to the Housing portal and complete a work order online. Instructions can be found by clicking the button below.
Issues that require attention from the facilities staff will be addressed at the earliest availability of the maintenance crew upon the submission of a work order by the resident.

Spaces that do not pass initial inspections will be re-inspected at an assigned date.
Not passing inspection may result in participation in the student conduct process and/or fees.
