Data Analytics Workshop for Women

Congratulations to the Department of Information Systems and Dr. Arun Aryal, Dalya Dauletbak, and Melanie Kim for setting up a grand event at Cal State LA on September 28, 2019. The event was the SheLovesData Los Angeles: Introduction to Data Analytics Workshop. This free workshop was a hands-on introduction to data analytics and business intelligence (BI). SheLovesData is a global and social enterprise that inspires women to become active contributors to an increasingly data-driven world.

The event organizer and the Los Angeles chapter coordinator for SheLovesData, Shibani Rai, emphasize that the main of these events and workshops is to help more women become data-literate. Also, these events provide mentorship, soft skills development, and networking opportunities for women. It was a women-only event for all professional and educational backgrounds who have no prior experience in data and tech but a desire to learn about the industry.

SheLovesData is committed to addressing the gender imbalance in the data and tech industry. They had a great line up of speakers and instructors. The workshop also had a fantastic tech recruiter, Margo Hoshfield, come in to speak to attendees. The topics were about building resumes, skills, and any other questions people may have about entering the tech field. This workshop was a fun learning and networking experience for attendees. The attendees had the opportunity to build their knowledge of data and tech from leaders in the industry who are committed to empowering women and diversifying the tech industry.SheLovesData is committed to addressing the gender imbalance in the data and tech industry.
