American Red Cross Blood Drives

Going to a hospital without blood is like jumping from a plane without a parachute! Give blood...Give life! (American Red Cross)

Appointments are typically available for the American Red Cross blood drives 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. on scheduled dates. The bloodmobile will be located in parking lot '4' between the administration and biological sciences buildings. Appointments are preferred. Walk-ins are welcome.

For your convenience, there are two ways you can schedule an appointment for the American Red Cross blood drives:

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Group Therapy

Group therapy at CAPS helps students learn skills to think clearly, enhance relationships, increase concentration, and improve mood. All sessions are facilitated by licensed mental health clinicians. Topics include:

  • Mindfulness and Relaxation
  • Grief and Loss
  • Healthy Romantic Relationships
  • Anxiety Management
  • Peer Support
  • Self-Esteem

CPR Training

The Health Promotion and Education Center offers American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver CPR AED and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers courses for current Cal State L.A. students and employees. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required for all CPR trainings. Call the Center at (323) 343-3340 or see CPR Training for additional information.

All courses take place 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on the scheduled date: Check back the first week of September for our fall '16 schedule.

CPR, first aid, and AED training are available throughout the community. If our program does not meet your training needs, you can find other training sites by calling the American Heart Association (AHA) at (877) AHA-4CPR or visiting the AHA. AHA strongly promotes knowledge & proficiency in BLS, ACLS, & PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by AHA. Any fees charged for this course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to AHA.


Eat Healthy, Be Active Workshop Series

Trying to get healthy for the summer? Join us for a 5 week workshop series on nutrition! A different topic each week! This series features no cost delicious healthy food samples. A different sampler each week.

All workshops take place in the Student Health Center, room 213, 3:15-4:10 p.m., on Tuesdays: Oct. 18 & 25; Nov. 1, 8, 15 & 22. For more details click on Wellness Workshops.


Free Confidential Rapid HIV Testing

Please Note: Wait time is approximately 30 minutes, although rapid HIV test results are available in 20 minutes. For your convenience, the Student Health Center offers traditional confidential HIV testing ($24 fee) Monday - Friday. Call 323.343-3302 to schedule an appointment.

The next free confidential rapid HIV testing takes place Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the mobile unit located in parking lot '4' (between administration and biological sciences) and is scheduled for:
