Welcome to Cal State LA’s Parent Academy. Originally developed by Dr. Alfredo Gonzalez, Parent Academy was launched in Fall 2013. This program is designed to help the parents of first-year freshmen and transfer college students:
- Develop a better understanding about what their student will experience in college
- Learn what it takes for students to be successful
- Meet and talk with other parents, current staff members, and professors
Parent Academy: Year 1
The first year of Parent Academy is divided into three sessions taking place throughout the academic year. Topics include successfully transitioning to college life, student mental health, and Financial Aid. Parents who attend all three sessions in a year are presented with a Certificate of Completion during the final program.
Parent Academy: Year 2+
Beginning Fall 2016, New Student and Parent Programs will offer additional programs for parents of second year students and beyond. Year 2+ is for parents who have completed the first year of Parent Academy, and want to continue gaining helpful information and resources. Those who have completed the Parent Academy program will receive an invitation to Year 2+ by email. There will be at least two sessions per academic year for this program.
Parent Academy is FREE, but a reservation is required to participate. While we do welcome multiple parents/guardians/caretakers to attend, we strongly encourage guests to arrange child care beforehand. Parent Academy: Year 2+ will take place on the following dates:
Session I: 11/5/16
Session II: 4/1/17 - Cancelled
