We are proud and excited that you have chosen to continue your higher education journey with us here at Cal State LA! Through Golden Eagle Orientation, you can access information and resources to get your college experience off to a great start.

Incoming transfer students and returning students who have been conditionally admitted to the university and have paid their Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD) will receive an email invitation beginning April 2018, with instructions on how to sign-up for an orientation date. The ECD deadline is May 1, 2018; students submitting deposits after this deadline will not be eligible to attend Orientation.

Based on the major you selected, you will be placed in one of the academic colleges. Some colleges have specific registration dates tied to your major; you will only be able to view and select an Orientation date that corresponds to the major that you declared on your application.

What Else Do You Need To Know???

Change of Major

Orientation can assist with you with receiving the correct advisement for your intended major. If you are currently registered with one major, but are certain that you will be changing your major, you should contact our office so we can help you identify the correct Orientation session to attend. Please be aware of the following conditions:
  • Reserving/attending an Orientation session different from your original major does not change your major. You will need to complete a Change of Major form once school begins to officially change your major.
  • Requesting an Orientation session for a major with major-specific criteria does not guarantee you admission to that program. You will still need to apply/meet any additional requirements for that program in order to be successfully admitted. For more information regarding the specific admissions requirements for impacted majors, please contact that department.

Course Registration and Tuition Payment

New transfer students will register for classes on their Orientation date. Cal State LA is a "Pay First" campus, which means you will not be able to register for classes until after you have settled your student account. This means students must pay all tuition fees prior to registering for classes. We know in many cases, this can be different from your previous institution, so please be sure to take care of your payments WELL IN ADVANCE of your Orientation date.
Additionally, all active registration holds must be resolved prior to your Orientation date. Some possible causes for registration holds may include:
  • Incomplete Financial Aid documents
  • Incomplete Admissions verifications/documents
  • Incomplete/missing test score information
  • Unpaid balance for tuition and fees
You can use your Student Portal to pay your tuition and check for holds. To access your portal, you will need to have activated your myCalStateLA Identity Account. Use the Tuition and Fee Payment Calculator tool on GET to help calculate your total tuition cost.

Course Counseling/Advising

Individual academic counseling/advising is not available. All academic advising at Orientation takes place in a group setting. Be sure to complete the Online Pre-Orientation, as this will help you better prepare for your group advisment session. Bring any questions about classes you have with you, in order to get the most out of your group advisement appointment.

Final Transcripts

The official transcript deadline is July 2018. All final, official transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions before this date. Some provisionally admitted students may be required to submit transcripts upon receing your admissions notification. Please check your "To-Do" list, located on the Student Center page in your Student Portal to see if this applies to you, and what your exact due date is. You may also contact Admissions if you have questions about your status. Late transcripts will NOT be accepted. Eligibility for enrollment will be determined using coursework completed and listed in these transcripts. Failure to meet the admission requirements and all related enrollment deadlines will make you ineligible to enroll for Fall 2018. For more information about submitting documents, please click here.

Parent and Family Support Members

Even as a transfer student, we realize that family support is a very important factor. A limited number of spaces are available at each Transfer Orientation session, if you are interested in bringing a parent or family support member to attend Orientation with you. Please note that once we reach capacity, we will not be able to welcome any additional guests. You will need to pay an additional fee and register your guest at the time you complete your reservation.
