It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Office of Graduate Studies website. Cal State LA is a state comprehensive university with an urban mission of engagement, service and the public good. You are joining a community of scholars dedicated to advancing knowledge and developing leadership in fifty-five master’s programs and three doctoral programs across our six colleges.  As a graduate student you are invited to actively engage in a learning community that will challenge and promote your intellectual growth through research, creative projects and professional development.

Changes in Graduate Studies

As of July 1, 2016, the Office of Graduate Studies has moved to the Graduate Resource Center in Library North A124 ("A" level).

California Pre-Doctoral Program ("Sally Casanova" Scholars) and Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) Info Session (W 1/25/17, 3:15–4:15, LIBN A124)

The California Pre-Doctoral program is designed to increase diversity within the pool of university faculty by supporting the doctoral aspirations of students in the CSU; the California State University (CSU) Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) aims to increase the number of promising doctoral students applying for future CSU instructional faculty positions by offering financial assistance in the form of a loan and mentorship by CSU faculty. New Graduate Student Orientation (F 1/13/17, 2–3 p.m., location TBA) 

The Office of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Resource Center at Cal State LA host the New Graduate Student Orientation — a chance for new graduate students to learn about academic policies and procedures, connect with resources available on campus, and network with peers. Learn more »

Seven Cal State LA graduate students were selected for the 2015-2016 Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholar Awards.

Since 1998, 186 students from Cal State L.A. have been recognized as Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholars. Fifty percent of the Cal State LA students have entered top-ranking doctoral programs throughout the United States and in several foreign counties. Cal State LA continues to be one of the largest contingents in the CSU system to receive the prestigious awards.


new graduate student orientation The Graduate Resource Center provides academic support, professional networking and community building opportunities in a space dedicated to graduate students. We guide students through writing, editing and formatting their thesis and dissertation. The center also assists in preparing their work for publication; host workshops and presentations to support students' academic and professional development; and act as a general resource for graduate student needs. We strive to arm graduate studenst with the tools required in the next steps of their academic and professional journeys.
