Though increasingly online resources are coming to dominate the career planning and job placement fields, some helpful resources are only available in print. One book frequently cited as helpful for career planning is Great Jobs for English Majors, by Julie DeGalen and Stephen Lambert (McGraw-Hill, 2006).

• Career Opportunities in English (University of Minnesota at Duluth)—While aimed at MA students, this site provides links to job resources for English majors.

• English Major Job Resources on the Web (Heidelberg College)—This site provides links to job resources, as well as overviews of jobs available to English majors.

• English: What Can I Do With This Degree? (Rice University (originally prepared at the University of Tennessee)—This .pdf file (requires Adobe Acrobat) lists types of employers that hire graduates with English degrees and strategies for appealing to them.

• Occupational Outlook Handbook (U.S. Dept. of Labor)—This site provides access to the job descriptions, employment outlooks and economic projections for hundreds of industries and professions.

• Practical Jobs for English Majors... that don't involve 30 adolescent children (Hanover College)—This site provides an excellent guide to career planning for English majors.

• Teaching English and Other Careers for the English Major (NCTE) This site provides links to information about teaching English as well as other careers that are open to English majors.

• "What Can I Do With a Major in English?" (University of Texas)—This .pdf file (required Adobe Acrobat) lists a number of job descriptions and how the skills developed by English majors relate to them.
