Office of the President

Welcome to California State University, Los Angeles

Photo of President William A. Covino. I am proud to serve as President of California State University, Los Angeles, a great university in a great city.

As the first in my family to graduate with a college degree, I am deeply committed to providing opportunities for our students to achieve academic, personal, and professional success, and helping them to develop a high regard for the intellectual and cultural diversity that distinguishes Cal State L.A. and the region that we serve.

Cal State L.A. has been recognized as one of the top 20 comprehensive universities in the country this year by Washington Monthly, for our contributions to the public good. This exceptional honor is based on our graduation rates, the important research produced by our faculty and students, and our dedication to community service.

In addition, U.S. News and World Report has ranked our engineering, nursing, and business programs as among the best in the nation; Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education has featured us in its “Top 100” issue; and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has recognized our outstanding record in the training of tomorrow’s educators.

All of these accolades, and more, have been earned by a devoted and accomplished faculty and staff, a student body learning to make the future better for us all, and a generous and engaged group of distinguished alumni and supporters. They make Cal State L.A. an engine for innovation, economic development, and the diversity of perspectives that creates fresh approaches to 21st century challenges and opportunities.

I look forward to meeting and hearing from you, as we work together to put student success first; to create initiatives that draw together leaders from business, industry, education, and government to serve the public good; and to treasure the diversity that makes true learning possible.

I invite you to explore Cal State L.A. on the web, and to visit our beautiful campus soon. You are always welcome.

William A. Covino, President
