About: The Environmental Planner/Associate Environmental Planner position writes environmental documents for Caltrans projects. Our planners work closely with Caltrans design engineers to ensure our projects are environmentally sound and sustainable by abiding by environmental regulations. We are looking for talented individuals with strong writing skills, great coordination capabilities, and a passion for environmental analysis.

Position: Quality Assurance GXP Associate Auditor Apprenticeship

About: This program is an 18-24 month apprenticeship designed to train the graduate for a career as a QXP Associate Auditor within the scientific products industry. Practical, on site instruction at a host company in areas such as quality assurance team support. Including, but not limited to: 

  • Support the implementation of the new global TRACKWISE Software audit database platform, including: 
  1. Transfer of audit records from the current Trackwise into the new Trackwise
  2. CAPA record monitoring and verification/closure in the current Trackwise
  3. Archiving of the current Trackwise
  4. User Support in the new system once the system is live
  • Provide support to new and on-going GRDQ projects and Initiatives
  • Under the Supervision of a qualified auditor: 
  1. Conduct and support assigned audits across GXP
  2. Summarize findings in audit reports, engaging partner input as appropriate
  • Assist the lead auditor in advising business partners on the development of effective corrective action plans and tracking/verification of Implementation
  • Conduct assigned readiness activities
  • Support regulatory inspection via backroom support, inspection room support and inspection response, as needed. 

On the job learning of complementary topics such as clinical trial oversight and support, trial master file oversight and support, laboratory and medical terminology, industry regulatory guidance, and a recognized industry certification. 

Outcomes

  • Regular performance based salary increases
  • Potential conversion to company payroll
  • Two industry recognized certifications 

Preferred Skills: Undergraduate degree in sciences, Microsoft office proficiency particularly with spreadsheets, power point presentations, business and finance courses.

Position: Clinical Trial Assistant Apprenticeship Summary

About: This program is an 18-24 month apprenticeship designed to train the graduate for a career as a clinical trial assistant within the scientific products industry. Practical, on site instruction at a host company in areas such as clinical trial team support. Including, but not limited to: 

  • Collection of essential Clinical Trial documentation 
  • Maintenance and filling during a clinical study
  • Assistance in the operational and logistical aspects of clinical trials
  • Assistance  with the processing of both Clinical Site and vendor deliverables

On the job learning of complementary topics such as clinical trial oversight and support, trial master file oversight and support, laboratory and medical terminology, industry regulatory guidance, and a recognized industry certification. 

Outcomes:

Organization: Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Watson School of Biological Sciences

Position: Undergraduate Summer Researcher 

About: The Undergraduate Research Program (URP) at CSHL provides an opportunity for undergraduate scientists from around the world to conduct first-rate research.  Students learn the scientific process, technical methods and theoretical principles, and communicate their discoveries to other scientists.  Approximately 20 students come to CSHL each summer for the 10-week program, living and working in the exciting Laboratory environment. URP participants work on a real research project in one of CSHL's expert labs.  Research at CSHL focuses on:

  • Molecular Biology & Cancer
  • Genetics & Genomics Neuroscience
  • Plant Biology
  • Quantitative Biology

In addition to doing research in the lab, URP participants attend a series of specially designed workshops, seminars and collegial events.  Workshops focus on learning particular skills, such as Python programming, while seminars cover research topics, responsible conduct of research, and career development. At the URP Symposium at the end of each summer, students present their research to the entire CSHL community.

URP participants live and work among CSHL scientists. They are invited to all Laboratory social activities - including two exclusive dinners, one with CSHL President Bruce Stillman and one with Chancellor emeritus and Nobel Prize winner James Watson.  On weekends, students are free to explore nearby New York City or the sandy beaches of Long Island. 

By the end of the summer, URP participants have first-hand experience of a career in scientific research. In addition to free room and board, participating students received a $5,250 stipend for the summer.
