Record number of Cal State LA students to graduate during Commencement

June 2, 2016

Nearly 8,000 Cal State LA students will be donning caps and gowns when they receive diplomas during the 69th Commencement on June 9, 10 and 11.

Commencement will feature seven separate ceremonies at the University Athletics Stadium in the Billie Jean King Sports Complex. Graduates participating in the events will have their names called out as they walk across a large stage and shake hands with Cal State LA President William A. Covino.

"I couldn't be more proud of our graduates and all they have accomplished," Covino said. "They will become part of a storied history of inventors and innovators, citizens and civil leaders who learned on this campus, and have become standard-bearers for Cal State LA and its mission of engagement, service, and the public good."

Commencement will also feature four recipients of an honorary doctorate degree: actor and activist George Takei; Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator, U.S. Small Business Administration; Ofelia Esparza, artist and educator; and Kent Twitchell, artist.
