Cal State L.A. ranked among ‘Top 100 Degree Producers’ in U.S.

Los Angeles, CA – Cal State L.A. has been named among Diverse Issues in Higher Education's “Top 100 Degree Producers” for awarding bachelor’s and master’s degrees to minority students. Cal State L.A. was ranked 32nd among U.S. universities in the total number of bachelor’s degrees and 39th in the total of master’s degrees awarded to minority students during the 2012-13 academic year, according to the magazine, which used federal data to compile its rankings.

The University was also ranked highly among institutions in California awarding bachelor's degrees and master’s degrees in all disciplines combined to Asian American and Latino students. The rankings are based on data from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics.

In a separate listing by disciplines, Cal State L.A. was named a top-ranked institution in awarding bachelor's degrees in public administration and social service professions (no. 3); English language and literature/letters (no. 5); and homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting, and related protective services (no. 5) to Latino students.

The University was also one of the leading institutions in the U.S. for conferring master’s degrees in area, ethnic, cultural, gender and group studies (no. 2); physical sciences (no.3); history (no. 5); and visual and performing arts (no. 8) to Latino students.

Additionally, Cal State L.A. was listed as a top institution in awarding bachelor’s degrees in business administration (no. 9); public administration and social service professions (no. 9); and communication disorders sciences and services (no. 10) to Asian American students. The University also topped the list for conferring master’s degrees in communication disorders sciences and services (no. 3); physical sciences (no. 9); and education (no. 12) to Asian American students.
