‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ co-producer to keynote university’s 53rd annual Honors Convocation
Los Angeles, CA – Elizabeth Devine, co-producer of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, will return to her alma mater Friday, April 25, to deliver the keynote at Cal State L.A.’s 53rd annual Honors Convocation.
With formal pageantry, Honors Convocation—which takes place 7 p.m. in the Eagles Nest Gym—will recognize stellar academic achievements of more than 5,300 Cal State L.A. students. Dean’s List honorees, recipients of scholarships and grants, and Honors College participants will be acknowledged. More than 590 new freshmen will also be recognized for bringing to the University a 3.5 grade-point-average (or higher) on their high school records. In 2013, more than 1,500 Cal State L.A. students received scholarships supported by donors and grants from outside agencies.
Devine—who earned her master’s degree in criminalistics at Cal State L.A.—has more than 10 years of experience in crime scene investigation, having served as a supervising criminalist, head of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department crime scene program and co-supervisor of the DNA unit.
In 2000, Devine started a part-time job working as a technical adviser on the television show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation while still employed by the Sheriff’s Department. She eventually retired and joined CSI as a full-time writer. She was a co-nominee for a Writers’ Guild Award for her episode of “Blood Drops.” In addition to being a writer and story editor, she also served as producer for CSI and co-executive producer of CSI: Miami. In 2004, as one of the CSI producers, she was nominated for the Emmy Award in the Outstanding Drama Series category.
At Cal State L.A., Devine serves on the advisory board of the California Forensic Science Institute. At her suggestion, a CSI Endowment Fund for Cal State L.A. was established in order to provide career development training, public policy and education in the areas of forensics. She was honored as Cal State L.A.’s Distinguished Alumna in 2006.
