A Refreshing Performance by Cal State L.A.'s University Dance Ensemble

What & Who:
California State University, Los Angeles presents Spring Dance Concert '97 by the University Dance Ensemble, under the direction of choreographer Hae Kyung Lee in a performance of powerful images and movement. The concert includes work of Tim Miller, Jacques Heim and Claudia Lopez.

When:
April 11-13 and April 18-20.
Show times: Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees, 2:30 p.m.

Where:
Cal State L.A. State Playhouse. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways.

Tickets:
General admission is $8 and students/senior citizens are $5 each.

SHORT BIOGRAPHIES

Cal State L.A. Spring Dance Concert '97

Jacques Heim
Jacques Heim, who began his career dancing outdoors on the banks of the Champs Elysees and atop cars in Paris, is the artistic director of Diavolo Dance Theatre. His work is a combination of hyper-athletic action based on everyday movement and architectural environments. He is considered one of the hottest new choreographers in California.

Hae Kyung Lee
Hae Kyung Lee, assistant professor of Theatre Arts and Dance at Cal State L.A., is an internationally-known choreographer who has performed throughout Korea, Japan, France, Indonesia, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada and the United States. She is a founding member of the Seoul Contemporary Dance Company, the Los Angeles-based Chopsticks and Sneakers, since 1986. She has been the recipient of grants from the California Arts Council and the National State County Partnership. She was also awarded the 1995 National Endowment for the Arts Choreography Fellowship.

Claudia Lopez
Claudia Lopez, a Cal State L.A. graduate student, who has been a member of Hae Kyung Lee and Dancers since 1993 and has performed in "Prime Moves" at Pasadena City College, Loyola Marymount University, the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State L.A. as part of "Dance Kaleidoscope 1996." She has also been seen in "Dances Without Borders" at the Japan American Theater and has performed in the "Summer Arts Festival 1996" at UC Riverside.

Tim Miller
Tim Miller is a solo performer whose full-evening theater works have been presented all over the world. He is the artistic director of Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica and teaches in the Graduate Theatre Program at UCLA.
