The Department of Anthropology and the Asian and Asian American Studies at California State University, Los Angeles present a lecture entitled, "Yung Wing (1828-1912) and 120 Young Chinese Students in American (1872-1881)." The featured speaker will be Timothy T. Kao, professor emeritus in economics at Gateway Community-Technical College and president of the Chinese Students Memorial Society in Connecticut. When:

"Yung Wing (Rong Hong) first came to the United States in 1847 and graduated from Yale in 1854, becoming the first person to hold an American B.A. degree in Chinese History. At Yung Wing's suggestion, China sent another 120 students to Hartford, Connecticut, to train them in Western knowledge.
