Emerita Faculty Selected to Participate in Los Angeles, CA -- Cal State L.A.Âs emerita professor of microbiology Rosemarie Marshall (Alhambra resident) was recently selected to participate in the annual reading and scoring of the College BoardÂs Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations in Biology. The College Board selects AP exam evaluators from among the best high school and college educators representing some of the finest academic institutions in the United States and Canada, with faculty consultants from nearly 25 other countries. Each year, almost 1.6 million examinations in 18 disciplines are evaluated by more than 6,000 faculty consultants. The AP Reading is one of the few settings in which academic dialogue between school and college educators is fostered and strongly encouraged. ÂThe Reading draws upon the talents of some of the finest teachers and professors that America has to offer, said Dr. Lee Jones, vice president, College Board. ÂIt fosters professionalism, allows for the exchange of ideas, and strengthens the commitment to students and to teaching. We are very grateful for the contributions of talented educators like Rosemarie Marshall. Dr. Marshall has been representing Cal State L.A. in her notable work with University Preparatory Programs at Bravo Medical Magnet High School for over ten years and with Crenshaw High School and Dorsey High School for three years, in addition to recent work with AP teachers in ten other high schools in the service area of Cal State L.A. In her field, Dr. MarshallÂs areas of specialization include pathogenic bacteriology, antibiotic/chemotherapy of infectious diseases and AIDS. Among her other areas of expertise are issues relating to patient care and hospital treatment. She received Cal State L.A.Âs Outstanding Professor Award for 1983-84 and was the recipient of CSU Systemwide Outstanding Professor Award for 1992-93. She has served as national vice-president of The American Association of University Professors from 1994-97.
