LITERARY TRIO EXAMINES LATIN AMERICAN POETICS

Pellegrini, Romay, de Villegas share ‘The Thought of Poetry’ Nov. 18

at Cal State L.A.; writers’ workshop (in Spanish) comes a day later

Los Angeles, CA –  Three Latin American writers will be showcased in “The Thought of Poetry—An Evening of Latin American Poetics” at Cal State L.A. Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 6-8 p.m., in the University-Student Union Theater.

A reception for the authors – Marcelo Pellegrini, Alexis Romay and Nestor Díaz de Villegas – will begin at 5:30 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.  Defined with varying nuances, poetics often refers to the form, construction, criticism and theories of poetry.

A poet, essayist and translator, Pellegrini, a native of Chile, teaches Latin American poetry at the University of Wisconsin. His most recent book is “La Fuga (Poemas 1992-2007).”

Romay – a poet, novelist, translator originally from Cuba – is the author of “Salidas de emergencia” (2007), the book of poetry “Los Culpables,” and other works.

A performance artist and poet from Cuba, Díaz de Villegas’s books of poetry include “Vicio de Miami,” “Confesiones del Estrangulador de Flagler Street,” “Sade’s Way” and “La Edad de Piedra.”

The panel will be introduced and moderated by Pablo Baler, author and professor of languages and literature at Cal State L.A.

A corresponding workshop on poetry in Spanish will be held Thursday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the University-Student Union’s San Gabriel Room (313).
