Latin Jazz Grammy Nominee
to March in
Cal State L.A.'s Graduation
Ceremony on June 9th

Los Angeles, CA -- Latin Jazz Grammy Nominee (2000) Bobby Rodriguez will receive his Master of Arts degree in Music from California State University, Los Angeles on Saturday, June 9 at 8:15 a.m. "Bobby is really excited about 'walking' in the academic procession," said Dean of Arts and Letters Carl Selkin. "He's had his cap and gown and his class ring for a month and plans to wear his cap and gown all day."

Bobby Rodriguez, born and raised in East Los Angeles, received the Grammy Nomination in 2000 for his CD, "Latin Jazz Explosion." He has also been honored with several other prestigious awards. In 1998, the Los Angeles Jazz Society awarded Bobby Rodriguez the title of Jazz Educator of the Year and in 1999 KLON named him Best New Latin Jazz Artist. He has one Gold and three Platinum records to his credit.

Rodriguez has directed the Latin Jazz ensembles at UCLA, USC, Pasadena City College, and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Latin Jazz ensemble, a group that has achieved widespread recognition under his leadership. He has performed several times at Cal State L.A.'s Luckman Theatre to enthusiastic audiences and exceptional reviews.

Rodriguez plans to continue teaching at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts on the Cal State L.A. campus, and at colleges and universities in the L.A. area while maintaining his busy performance and recording schedule. Eventually, he would like to obtain a Ph.D. But for now, he and his family are very proud of his newest academic achievement.
